Assessment Steps

Evaluation

An initial evaluation typically consists of 1-2 hours of both formal and informal testing. A consultation will be provided to discuss results, and if therapy is recommended we will begin collaborating on a plan of action specific to the client’s wants and needs. We believe acquiring a complete understanding of a client’s strengths, as well as key areas of concern, is essential to providing effective therapy.

In-person and virtual options available.

Therapy Plan

Each client is unique and we believe that each therapy plan should be tailored to the specific needs of the individual. Our speech language pathologists will work closely with the client and/or parents to develop realistic and achievable goals.

In-person and virtual options available.

Remediation & Speech Therapy

The goal of each of our speech language pathologists is to aid every client in developing the skills necessary to effectively communicate with others in their daily environment. Upon the completion of an individualized speech and language plan, clients will have a solid foundation for future academic learning and professional growth.

Typical session length: 25 - 55 minutes

Signs & Symptoms

What is an articulation disorder?

An articulation disorder occurs when a person has difficulty making the sounds in words. They may substitute, delete, add, or change sounds in a word. These errors will make it more difficult to be understood.

Examples include:

  • Saying “wabbit” for “rabbit"

  • Saying “thun” for “sun”

  • Saying “fum” for “thumb”

  • Saying “dis” for “this”

An articulation disorder may be present if errors continue past the expected age.

What is a phonological disorder?

A phonological disorder occurs when there is a pattern to the sound errors a child is making. These are known as phonological processes and can make speech extremely difficult to understand.

Examples include:

  • Saying “tup” for “cup”

  • Saying “nana” for “banana”

  • Saying “poon” for “spoon”

  • Saying “pig” for “big”

What is apraxia of speech?

Apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder. It occurs when the message from the brain doesn't transmit properly to tell your mouth how to move to form the sounds of language. The individual knows what they would like to say, but cannot form the sounds to the words they want to communicate.
